Tara graduated from Glasgow University in 1999 and the majority of her postgraduate training was completed in the West of Scotland. She moved to Aberdeen in 2007 and has been a Consultant Obstetrician in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital since 2009.
In the early years of her consultant career she was labour ward lead clinician and was heavily involved in clinical governance. With experience, she recognised the benefits of clinicians actively engaging in management roles and her responsibilities have grown over time. Her role in Grampian is currently split 50/50 between clinical work, including a full complement of obstetric on-call, and being Divisional Clinical Director for Women’s and Children’s services. She also has extensive experience of cross-board working and sits on the ‘Best start’ implementation programme board. Tara said ‘I am proud and excited to have been appointed as lead clinician for the network and am very much looking forward to working collaboratively with the whole maternity community, to support services to equitably deliver the best care possible to women and their families across Scotland.’
