Changes to Pregnancy Screening

NHS Scotland is making changes to the National Pregnancy Screening Programme.  In addition to existing screening tests, from 28 September women with a booking appointment will now be offered:

• screening for Edwards’ syndrome and Patau’s syndrome in the first trimester
• second Line Test: Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)
• updated screening for twin pregnancies

The Public Health Scotland website has been updated to include more information on these changes for health professionals.  There is also updated information for women and families on NHS Inform.
